Allia is a charitable organisation – a society for the benefit of the community – started in 1999. Our purpose is to make a positive impact on society by supporting individuals and ventures who create social benefit. We do that in three ways: through social innovation, through social finance and through workspace and enterprise support.
Society’s most pressing problems and the funding to fix them – are constantly evolving – constantly in a state of flux: that’s why we’ve developed social innovations around the country such as The Talent Nurture Fund in South Wales, Launch Pad North East and SkillsBridge based in Newcastle or Social Incubator East in Cambridge.
Over the years our social finance bond programmes have raised millions of pounds to fund charities and social ventures around the UK: thousands have been helped into work, into enterprise and out of debt
And what of enterprise – whether it’s small, medium, large, local, social – whatever the kind of enterprise, it is essential to fund society’s economic well-being. As the engine of economic growth and employment, enterprise matters: at the simplest level, unless a society produces more than it consumes, then it cannot sustain itself, cannot invest in its education, healthcare, pensions, welfare or even think about charity.
Social enterprise – that is to say enterprise which is for the benefit of people or planet – has enormous potential. And we see our task at Allia to nurture it through our provision for workspace and enterprise support, access to social finance and our ability to collaborate and bring experts and entrepreneurs together with a common vision and goal.
If you believe that enterprise is the way we can improve the world, we’d love to hear from you
